Bloc Blinds Invests in Major On-Site Solar PV System with B4B Renewables

Magherafelt-based made-to-measure blinds manufacturer, Bloc Blinds has taken a major step forward in its sustainability journey with the installation of a 156kW solar PV system across its production and office facilities.

Delivered by us at B4B Renewables, the project will help Bloc Blinds reduce its reliance on electricity from external sources, lower long-term energy costs and support the company’s carbon reduction goals.

The installation includes 304 solar panels on the factory roof and a further 49 panels on the office building, all working together to generate clean, renewable energy on site. The system consists of 165kW of solar panels connected to 116kW inverters and is expected to reduce electricity usage from external sources by approximately 40%, with an estimated payback period of around three and a half years.

Supporting a More Sustainable Manufacturing Operation

For manufacturing businesses, energy use can be one of the biggest ongoing costs. By investing in commercial solar PV, Bloc Blinds is now generating a significant proportion of its electricity on site, helping to improve energy resilience and reduce exposure to rising energy prices.

The system has already delivered measurable environmental benefits, reducing the company’s reliance on grid-supplied non-renewable energy by approximately 35% to date.

This makes the project an important part of Bloc Blinds’ wider sustainability strategy and long-term commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

A Practical Step Towards Lower Carbon Energy

Speaking about the project, Vinny Kennedy, Quality Assurance Manager at Bloc Blinds, said the installation reflects the company’s broader environmental ambitions.

“This solar installation is a meaningful step forward for Bloc Blinds. It allows us to significantly reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy while supporting a more sustainable and resilient operation. As a growing manufacturing business, it’s important that we take responsibility for our environmental impact, and this project demonstrates our commitment to doing just that.”

Alongside the solar PV system, Bloc Blinds has also introduced an electric vehicle charging point at its site, supporting greener commuting options for employees and visitors.

Delivered with Minimal Disruption

The project was carefully planned over a 12-month period, with the on-site installation completed efficiently and professionally.

This is particularly important for busy commercial and manufacturing environments, where renewable energy projects need to be delivered safely, effectively and with minimal disruption to day-to-day operations.

Commercial Solar PV Designed Around Your Business

Mark Fraser, Commercial Director at B4B Renewables, said the project shows how businesses can make practical progress towards clean energy while strengthening long-term energy resilience.

“Bloc Blinds has taken a proactive and forward-thinking approach to sustainability. This project demonstrates how commercial solar can deliver real environmental impact while strengthening long-term energy resilience. We’re proud to have partnered with Bloc on a system that will support their operations and carbon reduction goals for years to come.”
