Dunsilly Hotel: Solar Installation Helps Reduce Operational Costs in the Hospitality Sector
Objective:
The Dunsilly Hotel partnered with b4b Renewables to reduce operational costs while advancing sustainability goals. After conducting an on-site survey of the building’s energy consumption, it was clear that the hotel had high daily energy demands, particularly from its kitchens, function rooms, and guest accommodations. As a result, they required a cost-effective, reliable solution tailored to their specific operations.
Challenge:
Dunsilly hotel faced soaring electricity costs due to its significant dependency on the grid. Operating year-round with a steady flow of customers and overnight guests, they required a solution that minimised disruption to their services. “We wanted to safeguard our business from rising energy costs while doing more for our sustainability initiative,” explained the hotel team.
Solution:
b4b Renewables designed and implemented a custom Solar PV system, overseeing the entire project from scaffolding installation to final commissioning. Careful planning ensured the installation process did not disrupt hotel operations or inconvenience guests.
b4b Renewables successfully installed and commissioned 180 Solar PV panels, split onto 2 sides of the hotel’s roof, which equates to a 78kW system, with an estimated generation of 55,090kW of electricity per year. To monitor and manage efficiency performance and cost savings, we also integrated a SolarEdge platform for intelligent energy insights.
Result:
The Solar PV system generates over 55,000kW of electricity annually, significantly reducing the hotel’s reliance on the grid. Key benefits include:
- Cost Savings: Substantial reduction in electricity bills.
- Sustainability: Progress toward net-zero goals, saving 14tn CO2 equivalent to 2700 trees planted.
- Quick Payback: The system is expected to pay for itself in under 3.5years.
This project showcases how renewable energy can empower the hospitality sector to achieve financial and environmental goals without compromising guest experience.
“We wanted to safeguard our business from rising energy costs while doing more for our sustainability initiative,”
