How We Cut Energy Costs to Just £360 (€430) a Year for a 3,500 sq ft Home!
Here’s a project the team at Daly Renewables are incredibly proud of. This one is a great example of how we can transform homes with renewable energy solutions!
Let us explain how we managed to reduce this family’s energy costs to less than £1 per day!*
This detached family home in Co. Down Northern Ireland is built to passive house standards, which is all about maximising energy efficiency. The homeowner wanted to ensure the house was comfortable and highly efficient in energy use. That’s where we came in!
The Challenge
The goal was to provide heating, cooling, and hot water with minimal energy consumption. The house, a new build in a rural area, needed to adhere to strict passive house standards – meaning it had to be super airtight and well-insulated.
Our Solution
To meet these goals, we installed an Ecoforest Ground Source Heat Pump, which is perfect for passive house projects. Ground Source Heat Pumps are incredibly efficient because they harness the stable temperatures from the ground to provide heating and cooling. We paired the heat pump with Roth underfloor heating to ensure even and efficient heat distribution throughout the home.
For energy management, we integrated the Ecoforest E Manger. This system ensures that every bit of energy produced is used efficiently, minimising waste and maximising savings.
But we didn’t stop there! We also installed a Solar PV system to generate renewable electricity. The great thing about this setup is that any excess solar energy can be used to power the heat pump or heat water, further reducing energy costs.
The Results
𝗔 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗶𝘅 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗵𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 £360 (€430) a Year, which is less than £1 per day!
The integrated system provides year-round comfort, significantly reducing operating costs. The heat pump and solar panels work together, with extra solar energy used to heat the home and water at no cost!
This project demonstrates the effectiveness of combining high insulation, air tightness, and renewable energy systems in reducing energy bills
Final Thoughts
This project is a fantastic example of how combining advanced technologies like ground-source heat pumps and solar panels with smart energy management can create a highly efficient, comfortable, and sustainable home.
